Review – Brandon, FL – Smokey Bones

Ladies and gentlemen, my first local review.

Alright, I’ve been living and working in the Brandon area for about a year and a half now. That means five (to six if I come in on Saturdays!) days a week I have an hour to eat wherever I want. Now I don’t go out every day, but most of the time I need a break from the daily grind so I find myself ready to bail, at least for a while.

That said, in the last year and a half I have only gone to Smokey Bones twice. Why? Was the food terrible? Did the drinks not measure up? Was the service awful? DING DING DING on the third count.

My problem is that the food is delicious. Comforty, BBQy goodness that satiates a craving any day of the week. But literally every person I know that goes here for lunch is back late. Yesterday, for instance, I went with two coworkers. From the moment we sat down we told our server we were on lunch and needed to dine and be out quickly. Do you think that stopped her from taking ten minutes with our drinks? Or thirty with our food? Or an additional fifteen minutes to deliver our checks (even though we asked for them when our food was delivered)? No. It didn’t change her sloth like pace at all. As a matter of fact we had her manager run our cards so we could leave. Which she didn’t even notice!

I may go back for an evening visit. Have a few beers and relax or what not. But certainly not for my lunch breaks. They’re just too laid back for my afternoon tastes.
